Dr. Maryam Abtahi is a Cataract and Anterior Segment surgeon, specializing in glaucoma care with advanced training in Canada and Iran. She provides patient care at Herzig Eye Institute Ottawa, Precision Cornea Centre, and Riverside Eye Care Centre, a division of the Ottawa Hospital, Riverside Campus. She is also an active member of the Canadian Ophthalmology Society and the Canadian Glaucoma Society (CGS).
Dr. Abtahi obtained her Doctor of Medicine and completed her ophthalmology training at the Iran University of Medical Sciences. She then proceeded to complete a second residency at the University of Ottawa Eye Institute, where she served as a chief resident. After obtaining her FRCSC certificate in 2017, Dr. Abtahi attended the University of Alberta to pursue a fellowship specializing in glaucoma. With a strong interest in Ophthalmic education, Dr. Abtahi also successfully completed her Masters of Education with a concentration in Health Professions Education at the University of Ottawa.
In 2018, Dr. Abtahi joined the Department of Ophthalmology at University of Ottawa Eye Institute and is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Medicine. She has been highly involved in the teaching of residents, medical students, and ophthalmic technician students.
