ReLEx® SMILE®, also known as SMall Incision Lenticule Extraction, is the most recent advancement in the field of laser vision correction. It is minimally invasive compared to earlier generations of laser vision correction, and preserves the integrity of the cornea. LASIK stands for Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis. A wide range of myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism can be corrected by the LASIK procedure. It is a delicate surgical procedure where a flap is created and cornea is reshaped to correct your prescription. The flap is then put back into place and begins healing, which allows for a predictable healing response. Your vision stabilizes rapidly and you can expect little or no discomfort following LASIK. PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy) is a refractive procedure performed to correct myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism.
